The balcony is in a high-rainfall, waterfront location. Without waterproofing, rainwater would pass through tile grout into the substrate.
That moisture could saturate the slab, damage the structure, cause leaks to areas below, and leave the balcony wet for long periods, increasing the risk of deterioration and mould.
Rightway Waterproofing (Durotech Accredited Applicator) prepared the FC sheet substrate by removing dust, oils and other contaminants.
The area was primed with Duromix WBE Hibuild two-part water-based epoxy primer. Flexible polyurethane joint sealant and Duro Flashing Tape were installed at all wall/floor junctions and other joints to allow for movement.
Two coats of Duromix ACS-2 were applied to achieve 1.2 mm membrane thickness throughout. The same system (excluding flashing tape) was applied over the sand/cement screed for the direct-stick tiling method.
The balcony was fully waterproofed with a durable, tile-ready membrane.
Water ingress and long-term saturation of the substrate were prevented, protecting the structure and areas below. The client received a compliant, long-lasting solution suitable for direct tile installation.
